The North West Region comprises of Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester & Cheshire.

It's residents (6,853,200 in 2006) account for just over 13% of England's overall population. 37.86% of these people live in Greater Manchester, 21.39% in Lancashire, 20.30% in Merseyside, 14.76% in Cheshire & 7.41% in Cumbria.

The region covers 14,165 km² & rates sixth of the nine regions in terms of income per head of population.  There are 42 or 43 local authorities & two County Councils.

Untold community activists are out there, trying, in their own ways, to improve life in their neighbourhoods.
